Project 1 : Pre Production
In project 1, we need to create a suitable vehicle and props design for a world that we have created (such as from anatomy or character design), or we could have it as a separate world. Essentially we need to choose 1 type of vehicle minimum and slowly develop the vehicle till our final project. The main takeaway in project 1 is that we needed to show our ideation process.

The journey to my chosen vehicle for project 2 was probably the most rough journey I had in while. First, I'll showcase and explain all of the scrapped sketches because if I was honest to myself, they were all terrible. However, it's a good way to see how much I have improved.

Initially, when I first started, I wanted to create a 3-wheeled vehicle for the same character I made in anatomy and character design. The idea of the vehicle was supposed to be based on the same world the character was in, which was for a game called Guilty Gear Strive. The idea was supposed to be a vespa-like vehicle with elements form the game. However, after a few weeks, I decided to shift gear to something else.

Fig 1.1 to 1.3 shows my sketches of attempting that idea.

fig 1.3, Sketch/Silhouette 3 (24/10/2024)

I did eventually give up on that idea because I didn't know how to expand it. The perspective of the vehicle was also off in every sketch. Then I tried just experimenting with different ideas which looked straight up bad (Fig 1.4).

Then I tried expanding on on a simple base, but clearly my base itself wasn't solid enough which made all the sketches sketches look like Hotwheel cars (Fig 1.5).

Soon it was already week 11, I didn't have anything solid to show for the submission and the project 1 deadline was coming up. So I spend the next few days giving it my all. I first took Mr. Kannan's advice from a few weeks ago and made a rough model on ZBrush so I could sketch over it to get the perspective right. Fig 2.2 and 2.3 shows the sketches I came up with from the 3D models. While it wasn't amazing, it was miles ahead from what I previously made.

After doing 20 sketches as per requirement, I then need to narrow down 10 vehicles that would be interesting to further develop. Below shows the chosen vehicles in silhouettes.

Then I needed to narrow down 5 more vehicles from the silhouettes. Below are the 5 vehicles of choice with a rough value painting. I also tried to avoid picking vehicles from the same base as I wanted to finalize on choosing 1 kind of vehicle that I would go for.

Lastly, the design breakdown for the 5 selected vehicles. Moving on to project 2, I would be choosing the 5th vehicle from my different design breakdown as I find it the most interesting to work with (Fig 3.5).

Reflection
I'm certain that I almost gave up in this module because I had no clue what I was doing in project 1 until week 11 of the entire semester. Among all the modules I had for this semester, I was worried for this one the most because it's a very technical module with all the different drawings you need to do. However, I think I have ideated an idea that has good potential to be developed. I have also learned that I restricted myself too much going for that initial vespa idea because I wanted to follow and match the game's theme and style. Looking back, I am very glad I left that idea and just explored with many other different ideas because it's what landed me with a somewhat interesting vehicle to continue develop.
