But of course like any projects there needs to be a base first. I needed to clearly understand the basic concepts of design principles first. Throughtout the first few weeks, I have learned many design principles such as balance, emphasis, repetition, movement and how designers have utilize these in their work to make their end work more interesting. This is also utilized throughout the entire module's tasks to test your knowledge on these principles. Anothe...

12.02.2024 - 25.02.2024 || Week 2 - Week 3 Yong Zhen Xing || 0359473 Design Principles || Bachelor of Design (Honours) in Creative Media || Taylor's University Task 1 (Exploration) 1. Module Information Booklet (MIB) This is the MIB for this module : 2. Design Principle Recap These are the design principles that were taught in the module with a quick recap : Gestalt theory   "Gestalt" refers to shape or form in German. Gestalt principles/laws describe how the human eye perceives visual elements. It aims to show how complex scenes can be reduced to a more simple shape. It also aims to explain how the eyes perceive the shapes as a single, united form rather than the separate simpler elements involved. Below are some of Gestalt Theory that was covered : Principle Of Similarity The human eyes tend to perceive similar elements in a design as a complete picture, shape, or group, even if those elements are separated. Our brain makes a link between elements of a similar nature...

19.02.2024 - 10.03.2024 || Week 3 - Week 5 Yong Zhen Xing || 0359473 Design Principles || Bachelor of Design (Honours) in Creative Media || Taylor's University Task 2 (Visual Analysis) Module Information Booklet : 1. Task 2 Brief Recap In this task, I needed to take the artwork that I have selected from task 1 and do a detailed analysis on it. I will also need to go in depth about design principle used as well as the purpose of the artwork and how it relates to the UNSDG goal. 2. Visual Analysis As briefed about in the lecture, visual analysis are separated into 3 phases, Observation, Analysis and Interpretation. Selected Design : "Free everywhere" Source Link Phase 1 : Observation The design work is in a square format. In the bottom right, a girl is standing on the side of the building. On the top, a moon can be seen shining brightly in the sky. On the left, a bright yellow light is shining on the subject which casts an eagle shadow on the right wall. On the left, word...

04.03.2024 - 24.03.2024 || Week 5 - Week 7 Yong Zhen Xing || 0359473 Design Principles || Bachelor of Design (Honours) in Creative Media || Taylor's University Task 3 (Design) Module Information Booklet : 1. Task 3 Brief Recap In the final task, I needed to create an original design work inspired by the selected work on task 1 which also has to be related with the UNSDG goals. The design principle of the work should be considered first when sketching so that it will be more fluent in design language. After finishing the final design, I then need to write a rationale about it. 2. Visual References Firstly, I needed to get a rough idea of what I wanted to do. Since my UNSDG goals was gender equality , I wanted to get some ideas on that along with some composition or rough idea reference. From my initial selected design, elements that I wanted to follow were the night street theme and the expressing of freedom . The first 3 images are taken from my favourite artist who happens to hav...
