Final Reflection
This module has been a fun module altogether with tasks that tests your understanding on a concept that eventually leads you to developing something of your very own with the same idea behind it. But of course like any projects there needs to be a base first. I needed to clearly understand the basic concepts of design principles first. Throughtout the first few weeks, I have learned many design principles such as balance, emphasis, repetition, movement and how designers have utilize these in their work to make their end work more interesting. This is also utilized throughout the entire module's tasks to test your knowledge on these principles. Another skill I learned was knowing how to visually analyze a design work. Although it sounds simple, analyzing a design work teaches you just how much amount of thought are put inside a certain work. I can see this skill being beneficial for my future references.
When it comes to learning a new module, I always get excited just knowing what interesting projects that we will have to do. However sometimes projects do feel more tedious than fun which could ruin the module for me. For this module however, I enjoyed it quite a bit but not without some not so fun bits. I personally enjoyed doing the visual analysis portion and also creating the final design. I enjoyed analyzing my chosen design work as it tests how observant I am within a design work. I also enjoyed the creation process as I get to see my initial sketch come to life into a proper artwork! As for what I did not like, it will definitely have to be writing notes and finding a design related to the UNSDG goal. Both of which were in the first task. I did not like writing notes about design principle as it needed me to rewind parts of the video multiple times to grasp the important information I needed. As for the other, finding the right artwork that I like which also relates to the UNSDG goal was also a bit tedious in my opinion.
Throughout this module, there was also something that I have learned about myself. That thing being that I became more observant in any form of design works. After the visual analysis task, I definitely find myself looking at posters or artworks for longer periods of time than I'm used to. Spending the time to admire things such as the constructions of lines or even the colour choices in the work. While it was interesting for me to note this, I still don't think much has changed in my learning journey. I still find myself discovering and researching things the same way that I am used to.
While it was an enjoyable module overall, there are definitely improvements that could have been made to make the module more direct and efficient. One of them is having a goal for each week, so that we students know what should be completed or done by next week. Another one is definitely clarifying the things needed in the blog. While the blog already says most of the important ones, it needs to definitely be more specific. I find myself constantly changing and adding new stuff stuff to the blog which gets annoying at times. Other than those minor gripes, I still like the module and hope to get a similar module again.
