Project 1 : Proposal
Our goal for project 1 was to create an art direction concept that can respond to a real-world community problem that aligns with the United Nation Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This project will also be a on-going project until the final project. Our project can range from having a social campaign to having a game concept, as long as it's based on our decided specialization.
We first looked into the different SDGs that we could choose from. After researching on some SDGs, such as Quality Education, Life Below Water and Life On Land, we ended up selecting Quality Education as it's a concurrent problem to the younger generation these days that are more exposed to technology. As for our output, we initially wanted to do on a game but quickly realized that the idea is simply too difficult and time consuming especially considering that we have other modules to work on at the same time. So, we decided to work on something with a smaller scale instead, and that is, an interactive comic. The whole idea of this comic, is for it to be educational and at the same time engaging to interact with.
Then, I came up with a few titles for the comic that was then decide later through voting (fig, 1.1).

Next, I did some research on the problem and came up with a problem statement for our topic.

As my role was creating a story, I worked on making the simple draft of the story first. I came up with a simple story revolving around a kid being too addicted to his device, eventually leading to consequences. I made it very dramatic but it certainly can be readjusted later.

After several discussions later, we worked on changing and refining the story more to fit our target audience which was towards children and teenagers. We also ended up having a few character changes and ended up with a duck animal named Guss as our protagonist. The refined story can be seen below (fig, 1.4).

After the script was done, my next part was doing the environment design of the comic. Even though it was just a comic, we still needed environment especially for the protagonist's room and classroom so that we can get consistent layout on different perspectives. My part was creating the protagonist's room, so I first worked on the floor plan which can be seen below (fig 2.1).

In the end, me and my group members decided on the layout below (fig 2.2).
Lastly, I worked on the isometric sketch for the room which can be seen below (fig 2.3).

This is our progress that we have so far. While it doesn't seem much, I think it's a great foundation for us to continue on building our comic strip. Regarding our report, project management, and presentation deck, all of us worked on it equally and had our own parts for it. The next section shows the final outcome for the project so far.

Reflection
This first project has taught me quite a lot about teamwork. Although we weren’t that kind with time, I think we have made quite a decent progress on our work which allows us to continue going through our final comic design. I think aspects that our group lacked was communication and trust. While I’m not going to deny that we got along fairly well, which allows us to talk more frequently, trusting someone to do their part in time most of the time didn’t happen. Other than that minor inconvenience, I still think that our group did fairly well.
In terms of my individual work which is script writing and environment design, it was a pretty fun process although script writing was pretty rough. For script writing, I have learned to plan ahead on creating even a seemingly easy story like ours. I did not know how difficult it was to create a two-way story until now. It was great to learn to think both ways on how to make the story flow well. Other than that, making the floor plan and isometric sketch was fun as I need to think of how it feels like to be in the world. Overall, I think we have made good progress and I’m excited to see how we continue to go forward with our project.
